Triple 0

The new Lezama facilities represent the culmination of BELGICAST’s commitment to environmental responsibility and constitute a further step towards a greener and more sustainable future: Zero net emissions, Zero waste, Zero leaks. At the new “Triple-0” factory in Lezama, energy comes from self-generation and renewable sources and there is a photovoltaic energy installation as well as a 700-kW solar farm. There is also a closed-circuit system for water consumption.

Zero Net Emissions

By 2025, we have made significant progress towards our Net Zero Emissions goal. We have installed 880 solar panels in our Lezama plant and 120 panels in Toledo, which has allowed us to achieve 34% energy savings. This has resulted in a reduction of 151 tons of CO₂ per year.

In addition, we have launched a solar farm with 1,755 panels in Toledo, designed to offset 468.3 tons of CO₂ annually. This solar farm not only contributes to sustainability, but also reinforces our commitment to renewable energy.

All the electricity we consume comes from 100% renewable and CO₂ neutral sources, which reinforces our commitment to the energy transition. Through these actions, we have made our operation completely dependent on clean and environmentally friendly energy.

In addition, in all our facilities we have implemented LED lights and energy efficient sensors, which has allowed an even greater reduction in electricity consumption. Thanks to these investments, in 2023 we manage to reach 0 tons of CO₂ (Scope 2) in electricity consumption.

In total, 256 tons of CO₂ were reduced in 2023, bringing us ever closer to our goal of total CO₂ neutrality by 2027.

Zero Waste

One of our great achievements in the search for Zero Waste has been the digitalization of our administrative processes. We have implemented an automated system for managing invoices and delivery notes, almost completely eliminating the use of paper. This digitization allows information to be extracted and stored digitally in our ERP, which optimizes operations and significantly reduces our environmental footprint.

Furthermore, when we moved to our new plant in Lezama, our office team actively participated in the "5S Office – Zero Paper" project. As a result of this project, more than 5,000 kg of paper were destroyed using certified data protection procedures. This effort has not only reduced paper consumption, but has also improved organization and efficiency in our offices.

On the other hand, we have made significant investments to improve the energy efficiency of our production. In the painting line, we have automated several processes and improved the efficiency of the ovens by installing infrared panels and reducing burners. This has achieved a considerable reduction in gas consumption (Scope 1).

All the paints we use in our production are BPA labeling free, which further contributes to our goal of reducing waste and avoiding the use of toxic products.

In addition, we have incorporated hybrid and electric cars into our fleet, which reduces polluting gas emissions. We have also installed electric charging points in our plants to facilitate the transition to a fleet of 100% electric vehicles.

Zero Leakage

Regarding the goal of Zero Leakage, we have made significant efforts to optimize the use of resources and minimize leaks in our processes. An example of this is the Water Footprint calculation that we have already completed at our Mungia plant. Currently, we are in the process of carrying it out at the Toledo plant as well.

In addition, we have implemented a closed water circuit system for hydraulic testing. This system allows us to considerably reduce water consumption, contributing to the sustainability of our production processes.

All our valves undergo rigorous leak testing to ensure our processes are highly efficient and leak-free. In this way, we ensure the conservation of resources and optimize our systems.
